One of the most crucial and struggling question we face while opting for a career is as to “What should I do with my life?”. This is perhaps one of the most fascinating and life defining decisions one takes for their life and careers. If you are struggling with jittery nerves while deciding from those tons of career options laid in-front of you, then this might be a positive sign towards progress – having multiple career options is both empowering and blessed yet it can be one of the most harrowing decisions one could make. This has always been that one challenge of your life that makes you most nervous and anxious when work on career decision making.
While we embark on our journey in our life, what work we decide to get involved with, and the career path that we choose holds a deep impact on how we shape out as an individual and our contribution and impact on our family and country.
Relocations for me was a natural choice, not because my father was a mover but because it had imprinted my heart and mind when I was just 6-yrs-old. Initially during my summer vacations my father used to take me clients home for surveys. The way he interacted with clients and worked for superior customer satisfaction was something which fascinated me always. Working in the relocation industry wasn’t something which was suggested to me by my parents rather something which had become my passion over the years. Hence, I would love to share some actionable pointers which formed a part of my learning curve.
Intent is the key!
We hear many motivational speakers and budding entrepreneurs talk about futures and career decision making driven by ‘Passion Only’. Now having just passion won’t really help you choosing a better career for yourself. It is important to understand that career choices can be daunting specially when it will determine the course of one’s life. Passion without the right intent supporting it will eventually die down. The world is constantly changing, hence instead of agonizing your brains, it is essential to declutter your mind, form the right intent for your life and wrap it up with passion to drive the course of your future.
Prioritize Accordingly
While deciding for your career, think of it as a stage where all the growth and learning experience happens. People generally turn to intuitive decision making when opting for a career rather than more logical and research based approach. Key take away here would be that one should always list down their career options in terms of priorities considering the wider importance of your work and the length and breadth scope evaluation and not just ‘gut feelings’. Prioritizing and brainstorming the options would not eliminate any barriers to effective decision-making but would help you in making more informed decisions.
Enjoy your Ride
Once you have finished your share of research. Let the information sink-in and then make the final decision. As contradictory as it sounds to the earlier suggestion on not relying on your ‘gut feelings’, it is essential to not make decisions based on just plain facts. A strong judgement is based both on well researched facts coupled with intuitions for effective career decision making. If done correctly you would find a clear option which is better than the others. If not, then its likely that you have all the best options chosen for yourself. Once this is sorted decide, do something and enjoy it!
