Being a torchbearer and always an exemplary leader in my eyes, my father has been one of the most inspiring persona to me. He has been someone I always admire and look forward to in need of motivation and strength. Under his guidance and support, I have come up with and proved that Relocation Industry could be led forward by women as well. Being a man himself, he has never been a believer that this industry is just for men. I could actually come up and prove the Mobility Sector was more than just a Male-dominated Sector.
I have learnt a lot of lessons from my father which I can talk about for hours. But let us just put it out to five. The most stirring life lessons that now are a significant part of my behaviour and personality are as follows:
1. There’s no substitute for hard work in your life.
Whoever you are, wherever you are in life, your hard work is going to take you to places. If you think that working hard is not necessary and there are other ways for making things happen in your life. Then, you are probably mistaken because as it is rightly said only Hard Work can prove to be the key to all success. There is no shortcut, you have to put your labour into achieving something, and only then can you have it done for you.
2. Luck favours only those who work hard.
It happens for those people who dream, get up and put it out there to make sure that those dreams happen. You cannot just depend on luck, thinking that it is going to do all for you. You have to make effort and prove to yourself that you can do it. You can have the capability to achieve anything and life and for that, you need to at least make the first step. And, then one step followed by the other. There is no stopping or looking back. Luck will shine only when you make it happen in your life.
3. Always make time for your family, no matter what!
Thinking of the old times, as a kid, I could remember not even a single moment when my father was not available for his family, for us. He was always there whenever we needed him for anything. He balanced his personal and professional life so well that we never felt that we lacked his quality time as a family.
In similar ways, I have also made sure that I, being a mother as well as an entrepreneur, always stay there for my family as much as my family. I take out some quality time to spend with my little one and make sure that I am always there whenever she or anybody in the family needs me.
4. A leader can bring out the best in anyone if they put their heart and soul into it.
A leader has the power to reflect and bring out the true potential within an individual. He has the ability to delegate, see it all from the bigger picture, and even recognize the skills of his own people. A leader can guide and give the right direction to the people.
5. Always be accessible to your people.
As a leader, one of the most important aspects in life is to ensure that you are always accessible to your people. It could be your team, colleagues, clients, partners, members and suppliers. In any walk of life, you need to remember that it all started with the first handshake.
You are just a person sitting on a chair with some designation. But you truly become a leader and a respectable boss when you make sure that you are available for your people. Your visiting card just holds your name, designation, enterprise and contact details but what defines you actually is the real person that you are.
