It was great joy in listening to Oprah Winfrey's rousing Golden Globes speech few days back which talked about women, their struggles and their lives. It was great to hear her say a ‘New day is on the horizon! “I am sure I was not the only known who was left motivated by her speech, there must have been so many of us out there who felt inspired and more importantly wanting to make a difference. It also made me sit down and pen down some after thoughts regarding ensuring a highly productive day.
Almost everyone today is struggling to squeeze enough throughout the day and make the most of the “New Day". As soon we hit the 9 pm time mark, we wonder, where did the time fly and did we accomplish what we set out for? Over the years the biggest challenge I faced in accomplishing goals was making sure the teams were ensuring the best possible productivity of the day. I have always felt it’s important to go back to basics to ensure we make the most of our day. All of this put together ensures an individual and organization growth.
Let’s look at 5 Tips For Ensuring a Highly Productive Day that may help you out.
Goal Setting
I have often come across people who move like headless chickens not knowing about deliverables and what should be the expected outcome. It is important to have defined daily, weekly, monthly goals with timelines. Goals without a timeline or achievable deadline are only wishes and not goals. Do proper and systematic goal setting to hone skills to get hired almost instantly!!
Prioritizing tasks
Your client /boss suddenly gives you five things to do and all are essential and need to be done. That’s when we need to put thoughts together and prioritize. It seldom happens that every task is immediate and will have immediate issues if not done. Mostly we do have time in our hand, but we don’t see that. We jump to execution without planning. It would be great to prioritize, and you will see the difference in results post you start your career in an organisation.
End of the day routine
When you rest your day, it is essential to plan your next morning. No matter how different it looks for everyone it is essential to list down the key actionable pointers for each day. As smooth as creating a to-do list sounds, it can be confusing and deceiving as well. I have seen many of my subordinates not setting up tasks for the day and end up losing on the key deliverables for a day. The best way to tackle this is by mentioning it with a clear thought process. No matter what you do, make sure the listed tasks are clearly marked for the next day for ensuring a highly productive day.
Make time for a hobby
As much as it is important to work consistently it is also necessary to take breaks. I know it sounds counterproductive to take breaks especially when you are trying to fit in a lot in the 24 hours. Powering up enough without the needed breaks would eventually get you to burnout quickly. The breaks can be a hobby or personal interest that you would like to pursue. Staying connected with personal hobbies also enhances productivity.
Eat and exercise well
It’s extremely essential to eat healthy. Eating right makes us think and remain positive. It keeps the body and mind energized. If healthy diet is coupled with exercise, it adds an hour/ two to your productivity without fail. A healthy body and mind can always do more, think more and achieve more when it comes to ensuring a highly productive day.
